PARAGUAY & BRAZIL: RECIPE OF AN EXPRESS COMBINATION

PARAGUAY'S & BRAZIL'S RECIPES

Preparation time:

5 days on spot, or 1720 kms travelled

Cooking time:

34 hours and 30 minutes spent in 12 different transports

Ingredients:

  • 5 bus

  • 1 helicopter

  • 1 pick-up trunk

  • 5 taxis

Seasonings:

  • 1 land border passage including:

    • 1h in the trunk of a 4x4 caught by hitchhiking

    • 4h of waiting for NOTHING because our pick-up never showed up

    • 10h of endless travel in a night bus booked at the last minute

  • 2 nights in a hotel transformed in a roommates appartment of 4 guys addicted to illicit substances

  • 10 mosquito bites (they are back!)

  • 38°C to support every day (we prefer not to imagine how it is in summer!)

  • 3h in public transport (against 1), to:

    • see the famous strawberry fair and its... 5 stands

    • catch 1 mini tourista after having tested a local strawberry ice cream

  • 2 world travellers friends met

  • 1 back and forth to Brazil and the Iguazú waterfalls including:

    • 15h of transport

    • 1 wake up at dawn

    • 2 baffled faces in front of the park closed on Mondays

    • 10 min (minimum) of anger against ourselves for not having checked the website

    • 1 genius idea to compensate our disappointment, followed by:

      • 15 minutes of flying by helicopter

      • 1 excited (and scared) taxi driver to whom we offered the experience of his life

Method (overview):

  • PARAGUAY

Wandering the chaotic streets of Asunción under a beating sun

Travelling to Areguá, district known for its strawberry fair

  • BRAZIL

Flying over the 275 waterfalls of Iguazú by helicopter

The bill (for 2): 454€ (including the helicopter flight)

Positive feedback:

  • The possibility to legally go to Brazil from Paraguay without official land border control

  • The chance to do an helicopter flight at a competitive price

Negative feedback:

  • The climate at the limit of what we can endure

  • The languages very hard to understand

  • The bad value for money (in Paraguay)
